ARTFL Project
Coverage:13th century to the present

The ARTFL Project is a full-text database consisting of over 2700 French language texts from the 13th to the 20th centuries including texts in literature, philosophy, arts, and sciences. The database includes texts by French women writers, Provençal poetry, Diderot and d'Alembert's Encyclopédie, French dictionaries from the 17th - 20th centuries, andBayle's monumental Dictionnaire historique et critique (5th edition, 1740).

Arts & Humanities Citation Index (Web of Science)
Coverage:1976 to present
A multidisciplinary index covering the journal literature of the arts and humanities; it fully covers 1,144 of the world's leading arts and humanities journals, and indexes individually selected, relevant items from over 6,800 major science and social science journals. It contains a current total of over 2.5 million records. Subjects covered include archaeology, art, architecture, asian studies, classics, dance, folklore, history, language, linguistics, literary reviews, literature, music, philosophy, poetry, radio, television, & film, religion and theatre. As of January 2000, the Arts & Humanities Index contains searchable, full-length, English-language author abstracts.

Includes access to the Endnote Web citation manager: accounts must initially be created from within the McMaster ip range.

Bibliographie de civilisation médiévale Click on Enter databases

Provides a comprehensive, current bibliography of monographs on the Middle Ages worldwide and listings of miscellany volumes (conference proceedings, essay collections or Festschriften). The database includes entries for over 50,000 titles published since 1958, and is integrated with a companion database, the International Medieval Bibliography (IMB) which indexes articles:  you can search both together, or select either resource.

Bibliography of Asian Studies (BAS)

The online Bibliography of Asian Studies (BAS) indexes literature on all subjects (especially in the humanities and the social sciences) pertaining to East, Southeast, and South Asia published worldwide from 1971 to the present.  In addition, special projects have contributed substantian numbers of additional citations to the database, among them references to journals on Southeast Asia dating as far back as 1779.

Through 1991, the BAS included citations to Western-language periodical articles, monographs, chapters in edited volumes, conference proceedings, anthologies, and Festschriften.  However, monographs published since 1992 have not been added, and sources such as WorldCat should be consulted instead.

FRANTEXT database

The FRANTEXT database (formerly the Trésor de la langue française) consists of nearly 2000 texts, ranging from classic works of French literature to various kinds of non-fiction prose and technical writing. The eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries are about equally represented, with a smaller selection of seventeenth century texts as well as some medieval and Renaissance texts. Genres include novels, verse, theatre, journalism, essays, correspondence, and treatises. Subjects include literary criticism, biology, history, economics, and philosophy.

JSTOR provides access to a digital archive of journals in the areas of Arts, Business, Economics, and Sciences. JSTOR includes the entire runs of these journals, from the very first issue to the volumes published a few years ago. With a small number of exceptions - the "Current Scholarship" titles - JSTOR is a backfile collection and excludes the most recent issues (as part of the terms of the agreement with the journal publishers).

Periodicals Archive Online is a major online periodical archive that makes the backfiles of periodicals in the humanities and social sciences available electronically.  Currently, PAO contains over 500 journals from their first issue up to 1995, representing over 1.9 million articles.  McMaster's subscription includes PAO collections 1-6.

Indexes and abstracts over 550 journals from more than 40 countries; over 239,000 references, including journal articles, books, book chapters such as contributions to an anthology, and book reviews. Covers ethics, aesthetics, social philosophy, political philosophy, epistemology, metaphysic logic, philosophy of law, religion, science, history, education, and language. Includes citations to book reviews from 1985 to the present. Coverage is from 1940 to the present for U.S. materials, and 1967 to the present for non-U.S. references.

Thesaurus Linguae Graecae (TLG) Requires additional personal registration
Note:

The TLG includes digital texts written in Greek from Homer (8 c. B.C.) to the fall of Byzantium in AD 1453.  The project's goal is to create a comprehensive digital library of Greek literature from antiquity to the present age.  A number of lexica are provided to aid research, most notably the Liddell-Scott-Jones Greek-English lexicon, Cunliffe's Lexicon of Homeric Greek, Powell's Lexicon of Herodotus, and the Lexikon zur byzantinischen Gräzität (LBG). 

McMaster subscribes to the Full Corpus.
