ASCE's Civil Engineering Database (CEDB)

The Civil Engineering Database (CEDB) indexes all ASCE publications, providing citations to journal articles, conference papers, books, standards, and manuals.  Indexing for journals goes back to 1958, and book records are complete from the early 1900s onwards.  McMaster subscribes to ASCE's journals, but you will need to check the library's catalogue to determine if proceedings or standards are available.

ASTM Standards and Digital Engineering Library
Coverage:Active ASTM standards only

Includes all Active standards from the 80+ volume Annual Book of ASTM Standards. Content is updated as standards are released.  The Engineering Digital Library provides access to Standard Technical Papers and Symposia papers, e-books, manuals, 6 journals, and a terminology dictionary.   

McMaster's subscription does not include the historical standards, or additional standards - e.g., UOP - which may be referenced but are not immediately available online.

Compendex
Coverage:1969 to present

This database is the online version of the Engineering Index. It contains citations, abstracts and some full-text to more than 5,000 engineering journals, conferences and reports. Subject coverage includes chemical and process engineering, computers and data processing, applied physics, electronics and communications as well as civil and mechanical engineering. Online coverage is from 1969 to the present, and files are updated weekly. CRC Press ENGnetBASE: Ei Engineering Village 2 provides a search interface to bibliographical information of the CRC Press engineering handbooks. US Patent Office: Ei Engineering Village 2 provides a search interface to the freely available, full-text patents of the US Patent and Trademark Office. Full-text patents are available from 1976 onward, and full-page images from 1790. A plug-in software is required to view full-page images. A link to the European Patent Office is available. Website Abstracts: This is a searchable database of over 10,000 engineering web sites. It contains selected and indexed web sites by Ei (Engineering Information, Inc.) subject specialists.

The Canadian Standards Association is a not-for-profit membership-based association serving business, industry, government and consumers in Canada and the global marketplace. McMaster Library's subscription to the CSA Standards include those in the following areas: construction and engineering; electrical; energy; environmental; health and safety; mechanical and industrial equipment; quality and business management systems.  We do not have access to the Information Technology and Telecommunication standards.

The CSA website does not render properly in Google Chrome. Internet Explorer is the only fully-supported browser.

The FileOpen plugin is required.  If you do not have this installed, you will see 'Done' and a blank screen when you download your standard.  You can get the plugin from the FileOpen web site.

Covers worldwide literature on geography, geology, ecology and related disciplines. Contains references to over 1.1 million journal articles, books, conference proceedings, reports, etc. from over 2,065 journals and other sources. Includes abstracts.Subject areas covered include: cartography, climatology, energy, environment, geochemistry, geomorphology, geophysics, hydrology, meteorology, paleontology, petrology, photogrammetry, sedimentology, and volcanology.

Inspec (Engineering Village)
Coverage:1969 to present

Inspec is a bibliographic database that indexes world-wide literature on physics, astronomy/astrophysics, electronics, electrical engineering, control theory and technology, computers and computing, information technology, manufacturing and production engineering and materials science. The types of literature indexed and abstracted include journal articles, conference proceedings, books, reports and dissertations. The database is available from 1969 onwards and is updated weekly.

Knovel E-books - Civil Engineering & Construction Materials

Provides over 300 reference handbooks and fulltext e-books in Civil Engineering and Fire Protection and Safety.  Many of the handbooks include "productivity tools" that allow you to manipulate/sort data in tables.

Note:  McMaster subscribes to only two of Knovel's subject collections.  All titles are also listed individually in the library catalogue.

Allows you to cross-search over 30 indexing, abstracting, and fulltext databases in a range of subjects.

For the most part, these databases help you find scholarly journal articles, although you may also find scholarly websites and other types of documents. Some databases provide the full text of online articles, and some only provide citations. Use the get it! button to link to available full text.

SciFinder by Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) enables users to search online the Chemical Abstracts family of databases. SciFinder is searchable by chemical structure, chemical name, CAS Registry Number, molecular formula, chemical reaction, research topic, author name, specific reference (abstract number or patent number),company name/organization and table of contents of selected journals.

The following databases are available through SciFinder: 1. CA Plus - an enhanced version of Chemical Abstracts - 1907 to present, 2. CAS Registry - a database of chemical structures and names indexed by CAS from 1957 to the present, 3. CASREACT - includes records of single and multistep chemical reactions from the Organic and Organometallic sections of Chemical Abstracts from journals (1985 to present) and patents (1991 to present), 4. Coverage:eBooks, 2005 to current (with some exclusions) | Selected series, 1997 to current

Includes online access to the 2005- book collection from Springer, along with select series back to 1997. Covers subjects in the areas of: behavioral sciences, biomedical & life sciences, business & economics, chemistry & material science, computer science, earth & environmental sciences, engineering, humanities, social sciences & law, mathematics & statistics, medicine, and physics & astronomy

Exclusions: McMaster has not purchased the humanities and social sciences titles (primarily Palgrave, 2016- ), or the Energy collection. Select imprints, and the 'Methods in' series, are also not included in the purchase.

TRID : Transportation Research
Coverage:1960 to the present

TRID, freely available online, is an integrated database that combines the records from the U.S. Transportation Research Board's Transportation Research Information Services (TRIS) Database and the OECD's Joint Transport Research Centre’s International Transport Research Documentation (ITRD) Database. TRID provides access to over 900,000 records of transportation research worldwide.

The Web of Science Core Collection consists of several separate multidisciplinary citation indexes that can be searched independently or in combination. Included by default are the:
