World War 1939-1945 poster collection. – 1936-1945; predominant
1939-1945. – 213 items.
Although this is mainly a collection of posters, there is one photograph
(#C24) and one calendar (#C21).
Posters have been organized by issuing country: A (Australia), C (Canada),
B (Britain) and U (USA).
Posters have been described as follows:
- Assigned country and numerical order. Information can be found on the
reverse upper-right hand corner of each item.

Imperial Tobacco Co. of Canada in Montreal manufactured Sweet Caporal
cigarettes. Thus it is assumed that these two series of posters were issued
by this company for their employees. Both series were issued in English
and French. They have numbers stamped on them; C numbers have not
been assigned to them by them by the archivist. Accession 11-2010.
Series 1: Happiness, numbered 1-16 on bottom right; each poster has an
additional number “5848” (posters 1-8), “5938” (posters
9-16) stamped in the bottom left corner.
The tagline for poster 1 is“Qu’ils soient joyeux”. The
taglines for posters 2, 4-16 are: “Keep “Em Happy!”, “Rendez-les
joyeux!”. The taglines appear on the bottom of each poster.

this possible. Let’s keep up the good work to”. In French, the
letter writer’s name is “Paul”.
Poster 8, in English and French. “Waiting! This soldier has an appointment
with the parcel you are sending. Get the parcels out on time and”
The posters are illustrated by a soldier standing on a dock looking at
