Watkins, Margaret

Margaret Watkins fonds. – [ca.1800]-1969; predominant 1869-1969. – 1.53 m of textual records and graphic material. – Due to the disorderly state of the archive when it arrived, and Watkins's tendency to use scraps of paper to record her thoughts, complete rearrangement was required to create order within the fonds.

Series 1: Ancestral records

Ancestral records. – [ca.1800]-1928; predominant 1850-1890. – 64 cm of textual records. – Title based on content of the series. – Series consists of genealogical information, business receipts and correspondence, family correspondence, diaries, ephemera and manuscripts of Watkins's maternal family, the Andersons. Family members include John and Margaret, Marguerite, Louisa, M.E. [Margaret Elizabeth], Jane or Grace, John Thomas and Marion Watt Anderson. Series contains information regarding the family shipping/wholesale business as well as ephemera related to Louisa's trip to Manila in 1877.

The postcard collection is in sleeves in a binder and is in the order it was put in by Louisa and Margaret. The binder includes postcard series issued by the British Museum. Series also includes a post card album containing series issued by M.H. Sheahan and Elbert Hubbard.
