F.21        Skating album (Students MSS Book), gray covers, belonging to Mary Jane Halsted. Approximately 80 pp. of news clippings of photos and news stories of skaters, mainly Canadian, 1930-2. Much of the album concerns Constance Wilson-Samuel (1908–1953), the 1932 World bronze medalist, a four-time North American champion, and a nine-time Canadian national champion. Includes signatures of Wilson-Samuel, Cecil Eustace Smith (silver medallist, World’s Figure Skating Championship, 1930), Melville Rogers (men’s Canadian singles champion, 1923, 1925-8), Louise Bertram (Canadian pair skater), Frances Claudet (Canadian pair skater), Evelyn Chandler (Canadian pair skater), and Osborne Colson (men’s Canadian singles champion, 1936-7 and skating coach, including Patrick Chan). Includes a photo of Claudet at the Seigniory Club, October 1931. Loosely inserted is a Toronto Skating Club card with the names of skaters performing various waltzes and dances. At the back of the album is biographical information about Wilson-Samuel with a poem about her, “Ice Flower” written by Marie Lussi.
