92 cards. 1880-1920. Includes: “December” [1884], snow angels
skating, A.D. Matthews & Son, Brooklyn; comic Christmas card, ca. 1900. The
front of the card shows a lady with muffler, ice skating. It says: “What ho!”“A
jolly Christmas”. The card opens in up in the middle to reveal the lady has taken
a spill. It says: "She Bumps". And a proper man is coming to her
rescue. 2.5" by 4.5" when closed. 5" wide when opened.

Born in Ottawa, Barbara Ann Scott King (1928–2012) was a Canadian figure skater. She was a four-time Canadian
national champion (1944–6, 48) in ladies’ singles, a two-time World
champion (1947–8), and the 1948
Olympic champion. In the summer of 1948, she began touring North
America and Europe, headlining in a variety of skating shows. She retired from
professional skating at the age of twenty-five. She married publicist Tom King
in 1955. The couple lived in Chicago where Scott opened a beauty salon and then
became a horse trainer and equestrian rider.
In 1996, she and her husband retired to Amelia Island in Florida.

Born in Oslo, Sonja Henie (1912–1969) was a Norwegian figure skater and film star. She was a
six-time European
Champion (1931–1936) in ladies’ singles, a ten-time World
Champion (1927–1936), and three-time Olympic
Champion (1928,
1932,
1936).
After the 1936 World
Figure Skating Championships, she took up a career as an actress
with Twentieth Century
Fox and as a professional skater in touring ice shows (the latter
until 1956).
