Plates for the “Appendix to the Third Report of the Select Committee of the House of Commons upon the Improvement of the Port of London.”

Description of Plates
The descriptions are taken directly from the Listing and the information on each plate.

Listing. The Several Plans and Drawings Referred to in the Third Report from the Select Committee of the House of Commons upon the Improvement of the Port of London… Ordered to be Printed 28th July 1800… Luke Hansard, Printer. Size 17 3/8 x 25 inches.

Plate I. The title line above the image is missing but the plate has been identified as Plate I in pencil and corresponds to the description in the accompanying Broadside under the heading “Appendix to Mr. Mylne's Report.” The plate consists of four parts as follows.
                a. Section of the Locks, and Construction of the Piers of London Bridge.
                b. Soundings in May 1767, along the Middle Line of the River, and through the Great Arch.
                c. Profile down the middle of the River Thames at low still water passing through the Great Arch of London Bridge, taken in the year 1767.
                d. Measurements across the river, and Proportion of the Piers, &c. to the Arches; – and soundings at London Bridge, 1767.

Plate II. Plan for a bridge to be erected on the Foundations of the present [London] Bridge; having its Centre Arch, of lron, 300 Feet span between London & Blackfriars Bridge, R. Dodd Engineer. Plate size 35 x 25 inches.

Plate III. Design for a Stone Bridge of Five Arches to permit shipping to pass under its centre Arch with views of the proposed Embankments & Fire proof Warehouses above them. By D. Dodd Engineer, 1799. Plate size 35 x 25 inches.

Plate IV. An Elevation of Fire proof Warehouses, built on Iron Pillars to admit Carts under them, by R. Dodd, Engineer 1800. Plate size 35 x 25 ½ inches.

Plate V. Proposed Plan for Improvement of the Port of London to admit shipping between the Bridges of London & Blackfriars. By R. Dodd, Engineer. Plate size 35 x 24 ¾ inches.

Plate VI. South Pier of the Great Arch of the London Bridge: exhibiting its present decayed state, and shewing it only being held together by Iron Cramps; also shewing two dangerous Chasms in the centre. Surveyed by R. Dodd, Engineer, 1799. Plate size 35 x 24 ¾ inches.

Plate VII. A perspective View of the Present London Bridge shewing the foundation of the Bed of the River a few yards to the eastward of its starlings occasioned by the great Fall of Water. Surveyed by R. Dodd, Engineer, 1798. Plate size 42 x 24 ½ inches.

Plate VIII. Mr. Wilson's Design for a Cast-Iron Bridge of Three Arches, with Stone Piers over the Thames Instead of the Present London Bridge. Plate size 70 ½ x 24 ¾ inches.

Plate IX. General Plan by Messrs. Telford and Douglass for the Further Improvement of the Port of London, shewing the Situations of the proposed new Bridge; also the proposed Wharfs along each Shore of the River; and the Inclined Planes leading from the Bridge to the Wharfs, and to the several Streets connected therewith; likewise the Deposites and Pubic Markets for Coals. Plate size 47 ¼ x 25 5/8 inches.

Plate X. Messrs. Telford & Douglass's General Elevation of a Cast Iron Bridge proposed ... near St. Saviour's church. Plate size 47 ½ x 24 ¾ inches.

Plate XI. Messrs. Telford & Douglass's Elevation of the two Designs (One of Three, and One of Five Arches) for the portions of the Bridge which would run between the fronts of The Wharfs. Plate size 46 ½ x 24 ¾ inches.

Plate XII. Messrs. Telford & Douglass's plans and Elevation of the Inclined planes which are to connect their Bridge with the Wharfs and the adjoining streets. Plate size 46 ¼ x 24 ¾ inches.
