Pauline Johnson fonds.

Series 1
Correspondence. -- 1870-1921. -- 6.5 cm of textual records. -- Title based on content of the series.
Series consists of mainly incoming correspondence to Johnson, including book orders, post cards, and one telegram. There are also letters addressed to W. Jackson, L.W. Makovski and Walter McRaye, from various people with regard to Johnson. Unless specified otherwise, all correspondence consists of one letter.

[Scrap Book] - red leather bound book, contains letters, newspaper clippings, programmes, greeting cards, ticket stubs, and photographs pertaining to Walter McRaye and Pauline Johnson. Item may have belonged to Walter McRaye, as most letters are addressed to him. Item contains articles about the deaths of both McRaye and Johnson. 1875-[after 1913]; predominant 1906.

Black leather wallet with metal return-to-owner identification tag

Purple and black purse - has metallic clasp adorned with pink faux jewels, contains pieces of bear claws for a necklace worn by Johnson during stage performances

Address book, purple leather with the inscription: “Vancouver Oct 26/ [19]27. This little book was the property of Pauline Johnson. She gave it to me – New Year’s 1913, to Mrs. Irene Moody in grateful memory of many charming dinners...”

Photograph of Pauline Johnson, 1907, with title “Tekahionwake” inscribed to Walter McRaye, “my friend and fellow artist”. Also 3 finely woven Indian baskets, one containing an Indian arrowhead. A note accompanying the material says that the baskets were used by Pauline on her Chataqua appearances and were given to McRaye. Baskets are in specially constructed containers beside Box 11. (Accession 02-2001)

Two newspaper clippings re “My Lady Icicle” and an obituary, 7 March 1913. One photograph inscribed on verso “E. Pauline Johnston (sic), Canadian poet”. Note: This is not Johnson, possibly it is Frances Nickawa. CD with scans of photographs and letters from Walter McRaye to his sister, Jossie, 1917-1921.
