Havens family

Havens family collection. – 1870-1800. – 3 cm of textual records.

Envelopes are addressed to William V. Havens, Aldborough, Elgin County, Ontario. Exceptions are noted.

Letter from from R. Havens (his father), Grantham, 22 August 1870, no envelope, addressed to “dear children”
1871:
Three letters and two envelopes from Richard Havens, Grantham, March-April 1871, all addressed “dear child”
1872:
Four letters and three envelopes from R. Havens, Grantham, Feb.-Dec. 1872, all addressed “dear children
Letter and envelope from Thomas & Hannah Elmes, Blenheim, 8 March. 1872, addressed to “dearest grandpa”. Part of the letter has been torn off. It concerns gifts of money.

Two letters and one envelope, January and August 1874, from Martha A. Corus (a friend), Virgil
Letter and envelope from his wife Mary, 11 Feb. 1874. Her father is ill. Although she addressed it “Aldborough”, she is clearly not there. The envelope is pmk. Niagara.
Letter and envelope, 23 March 1874. The envelope is addressed to Havens but the letter is addressed to “dear sister” and signed “your affectionate brother Thomas Hiscott
Letter and envelope written from the Oakfuskee Hills, Chulafinnee, Claburn [Cleburne] County, Alabama, from Deborah Alexander (a friend), 13 May 1874. She notes that milk is scarce where she is while there is plenty in Aldborough.

1876:
Letter and enveloped from D. A. [Deborah Alexander], 6 January 1876. The envelope is pmk. Alabama while she has written “Goldmines” at the top of the letter. She notes that Thomas worked in the gold mines last summer, the company went broke and he did not get paid.

Letter from Alex Goring (a friend), 1 Feb. 1897, Fonthill. Part of the letter has been torn off.
Letter and envelope from James Rose (a friend), 16 March 1897, Emigrant Gap, California.  He writes about the American President, possible war in Europe, the Manitoba schools question, and buying property in Oakland and Berkley. William has been out to visit him.
