Revolutionary Marxist Group

Revolutionary Marxist Group fonds. -- 1947-1980; predominant 1973-1978. -- 2 m of textual records.

The Revolutionary Marxist Group (RMG) was a Canada-wide organization composed of militant socialists. It was founded in the summer of 1973. The RMG was closely affiliated with the Fourth International, an organization founded by Leon Trotsky in opposition to Stalinist socialism. As an affiliate to the Fourth International, the RMG maintained relations with several other related socialist sects. The most notable of these were the League for Socialist Action, the Revolutionary Workers League, the International Marxist Group , and the Socialist Workers Party.

The fonds is arranged into two series. The first includes pamphlets and bulletins produced by the RMG itself as well as those produced in conjunction with affiliated organizations. The second series includes reference materials of the RMG (news clippings, leaflets, small posters, journal issues, etc.). The original filing system of the organization has been retained in this series. Researchers may also wish to consult the Radical pamphlets collection which contains 1 box of material related to the RMG.
