Geochemical Society Geochemical Society fonds. – 1955-1999. – 2.34 m of textual records. -- 9 photographs : 3 slides. The Geochemical Society was founded on 7 November 1955. The purpose of the Society is to encourage the application of chemistry to the solution of geological and cosmological problems. It is an international organization, based in the United States, with its membership predominantly university professors. The Society honours outstanding contributions by individual scientists annually by presenting the F.W. Clarke Award, V.M. Goldschmidt Award and the Clair C. Patterson. Award. Its principal publication, co-sponsored by the Meteoritical Society, is Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta. There have been three accruals, acquired through the assistance of Dr. D.M. Shaw, Honorary Life Member of the Geochemical Society. The accruals have been combined into one accrual. The arrangement of the fonds is as follows: organizational history, membership lists, constitution and by-laws, newsletters, correspondence, minutes and council proceedings, financial records, committees, and associated societies. For related material, researchers should consult the Organic Geochemistry Division fonds. The Geochemical Society's Special Publication series was removed from the archive and sent to Thode Library for cataloguing. Title based on content of fonds. |
