Ball, Nelson, 1942-

Nelson Ball fonds. -- 1951-2011. -- 11.2 m of textual records and graphic material.

Nelson Ball, poet, publisher and book seller, was born in Clinton, Ontario in 1942. He is the author of several collections of poetry. He established Weed/Flower Press in 1965 in order to publish Canadian and American poets.

There have been five accruals. The first accrual consists of manuscripts, correspondence, and Weed/Flower Press materials. The second accrual (17-1997) consists of manuscripts, correspondence, Weed/Flower Press materials, juvenilia and oversize. The third accrual (13-2000) consists of manuscripts, correspondence, photographs, and printed materials. The fourth accrual (13-2005) has been arranged in the following series: manuscripts, typescripts and proofs; correspondence; manuscripts by others; personal documents and other materials (includes photographs); posters. The fifth accrual ( 05-2011) consists of Ball's business archives as an antiquarian bookseller of Canadian literature: William Nelson Books (1972-1985); Nelson Ball, Bookseller (1985-2010). It has been arranged into the following series: catalogues and quotations; correspondence; various; financial records; appraisals; Canadian paperback research; printed matter.

Title based on content of fonds.
The first accrual was acquired in 1975, the second in 1997, the third accrual in 2000, the fourth in 2005, the fifth in 2011, all from Nelson Ball.
Finding aid available in hard copy and electronically.
Series 5 in the fifth accrual is restricted for a period of 15 years from 2011.
Further accruals are expected.
