Series 2: Finances. -- 1935-1943. – 67 cm of textual records.
– Title based on content of series.
The Finance Committee as represented by its Chairman reported to the Executive
Committee on all financial matters. Funding of the CYC was an ongoing
problem. The Continuations Committee was formed early on to secure financial
support. Although there was also an Honourary Treasurer, Ingham Sutcliffe,
in his capacity as Treasurer from mid-1935 until the Congress’ dissolution,
appears to have handled most of the detailed financial matters such as
correspondence and general financing of the CYC-- its operations and activities
(including the publishing of “Youth Forum”). The Finance Committee
members and the Treasurer also consulted with the local councils regarding
their means of financing, their organizational structure, and appeals
for funding. As well, the financial aspects of the annual Canadian Congresses,
such as the transportation and billeting arrangements for the delegates,
were handled by both the Treasurer and the Finance Committee often in
conjunction with the local council.
This series consists of statements, signing agreements, reports, account
journals, receipts, cheques stubs, savings booklets and other items relating
to C.Y.C. operations as accumulated or created by the Treasurer, the Honourary
Treasurer, and various members of the Finance Committee and the Continuations
Committee. Also included are correspondence, bills, billeting arrangements,
and so on relating to financial campaigns and various international, Canadian,
and local congresses and conferences. Files are arranged chronologically
by year.
